• The lake has developed a new algae bloom in the last few weeks. As algae began to die, it created an unpleasant smell. Last Wednesday, I sent samples of the algae to the SolarBee limnologist for identification and for a plan to control it. A copy of his report is available for you. A second sample was sent to another lake management company for their opinion. We should hear from them next week. We will also invite two other lake management companies that operate in this area to inspect the lake and make suggestions as how we might address our algae problem.


• The second bladder tank for the R/O plant has been delivered and will be set up next week in the area previously occupied by the hydro-tank. This will enable us to move the original bladder tank out of area used for storage and record keeping. Having the new tank operational will enable us make this move without shutting off the water to the residents. Also having two tanks will give us a smoother operating pressure and a safety system should there be a failure in one of those tanks.


• The Sewer Plant continues to operate with very few problems. This month, however, one of the blowers used to aerate the effluent failed and had to be replaced. Because of having a backup, there was on down time. Having this backup is very important for a system that is used so frequently and is so necessary.


• Our landscaping company is still learning our property. You may have encountered a problem or two with their work. If you do have a problem, be sure to let the office know as soon as possible so we can get them to correct it before they leave for the day.


• Sarasota County has made an informal offer to purchase the portion of 8 Acres that they have been interested in. The price was $231,000. Our appraisal had the value at $600,000. The Board instructed our attorney tell the County that KGC declines the offer. The county has said that the Honore Ave. Extension project will be completed by December 2014.


• The stage lighting has arrived and now that the Fair is over, installation by some of our volunteers will begin soon. We had hoped to have the lighting installed before the season is over this year but a delay in shipments has disrupted the schedule.


• Comcast is still ironing out the uh-oh’s created by the transition to all digital signal. Some of you may be having problems with your digital adapters. If the problem is with the equipment, Comcast will need to be called. If the problem might be operator error, it would be best to find a friend familiar with electronics to check it out.
