• The cold weather has had several impacts on King’s Gate Club. The most obvious is the damage to landscape material. It is not known at this time the extent of the damage and the plant loss involved. Also, because of the cold weather, FPL had voltage problems during that period. The club lost power to the distribution pumps due to high voltage. Fortunately, our maintenance staff was able to bypass the controls and keep the water flowing to the homes. The next day, the lift station nearest the front gate shut down due to low voltage. Again or staff was able to keep the system running until the voltage returned to normal. The ice machine stopped working for a couple of days either because of voltage fluctuations or the cold temperature. We were able to reset the circuit board and restart the machine.


• An engineer will be at KGC to inspect the Jacuzzi and suggest modifications to or a complete rebuild of the spa to meet the new federal mandated spa drain system. He should have his report completed by the first week in February. With this report we will be able to get cost estimates from pool contractors for the necessary work.


• Speaking of the Jacuzzi, there was the one incident when someone had put soap detergent in the spa. I sent an email to all the residents’ email addresses listed on the kgc.cc website informing them of the vandalism and asking them to caution any visitors that they may have to observe sensible practices while at the club. Many of you expressed concern and outrage over this vandalism. Hopefully, these sorts of things will not happen again.


• The volcanoes and the fountain are all working today. Last week however, one had to be shut down. It had fishing line tangled around the shaft and was not operating correctly. You must be tired of hearing about these recurring problems but they continue to happen and most often are preventable. Several residents have made suggestions for keeping out the damaging materials but the lake maintenance company has not agreed to any changes.


• Nanak’s, is beginning to clean the pepper trees and other undesirable growth off the creek banks. They have started at the boat dock and will move down Salt Creek and then back up Cow Pen Slough to the gate to the eight acres. This project has been a part of the responsibilities in the landscape contract and finally it seems to be happening.


• The bat elimination project has been completed. A system was installed that allowed the bats to leave their roosting area but would not allow them to re-enter. After they were all gone, the space they had occupied was pressure cleaned and permanently sealed.


• While there continues to be speculation on the completion of the Honore Extension, the Sarasota County property acquisition department has not contacted KGC or our attorney regarding their interest in acquiring some part of the 8 acre parcel.


• Sarasota County will administer free H1N1 flu shots in the Book & Game room on Thursday, February 11, 2010 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. if you want to participate, sign up in the office.
