• The R/O plant underwent a through overhaul this summer. Both of the wells were disinfected, the membranes in each of the four vessels were replaced and a new anti-scalent that does not require an acid pretreatment of well water is being used thus saving money and eliminates the use of a chemical. VFD drives have been added to the distribution pumps which will give a constant water pressure to the homes.
• The sidewalks leading up to the clubhouse and patio have been covered with a decorative finish. This should eliminate the peeling paint that required constant touchup and total repainting every other year.
• Even though we have had a good amount of rainfall since June, Sarasota County is still in a drought condition and SWFWMD has declared a Phase III water emergency. There are a few new restrictions of which you should be aware. Hand watering may not be done between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. for properties less than 2 acres and between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. for properties 2 acres or greater in size. Excessive water runoff is prohibited including sprinklers spraying onto the street or other non-landscaped areas. An irrigation system operating during or soon after a substantial rainfall is prohibited and is subject to a $100.00 citation. All other violations are also subject to the $100.00 citation. A warning will not be issued. A complete list of water use restrictions is available at the office.
• The State of Florida now requires a special grate over the drains in the pool and the Jacuzzi; the drains in both have now been replaced.
• Two of the volcano bubblers have been out of service. One had a broken motor shaft probably due to foreign material lodged in the intake. The warranties on these units have expired and the motor had to be replaced at a cost of $3,000.00. The other unit’s power cord was cut by a boat propeller and had to be replaced. Meanwhile, the algae have grown substantially. The lake maintenance company has been putting algae eating bacteria in the lake to slow the growth and it seemed to help for most of the summer. The two bubblers should be repaired by next week and help arrest the algae growth.
• The Driving Range was in disorder this summer with the balls and clubs scattered all over the area. Some balls were found in the nearby streets. For the time being the clubs were put in the shuffleboard shed. If there continues to be a problem with misuse of the driving range, we may have to put the supplies in a locked cabinet.
• The entrance area has some new plantings; four Viburnum (one died last week) have been added to the hedge between the Club and the Park’s boat parking, Liriope and juniper were planted around the sign and waterfall, most of the damaged Ixora have been removed and a new light for the sign has been installed.
• The lawn service has now gone to the every other week mowing schedule. During this winter schedule the crews are to edge the roads, driveways and beds with each cutting.
• A detailed memo of summer work projects will be sent to all owners soon.
• The structural repairs on the bridge require a Sarasota County permit. This means that an engineering firm must prepare specifications and drawing for the repairs to the beam and columns. The Board of Directors has received the engineers’ preliminary bid package. Once it is approved, bids will be received and a contractor will be selected.
